The process of selecting the Council of the Regulatory Body for Electronic Media has been ongoing since November of last year. On July 9, the Association of Journalists of Serbia submitted comments to the parliamentary Committee for Culture and Information regarding the proposed members of the Council, stating that six candidates do not meet the requirements. The parliamentary committee responded that the list has already been established and that there is no point in reconsideration. Saša Mirković from the Association of Independent Electronic Media stated that at the committee meeting, an agreement was reached on seven categories, but that there are irreconcilable differences concerning the remaining two.

For this reason, he has requested an assessment of his security from the police.

The Coalition for Media Freedom vehemently condemns the public attack by the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, on Veran Matić, the president of the Association of Independent Electronic Media (ANEM), a member of the Permanent Working Group for the Safety of Journalists, and one of the most prominent media professionals in Serbia.

The National Working Group for the Fight Against SLAPP expresses serious concern regarding the criminal lawsuit filed by the company "Starting," one of the main subcontractors for the construction of the Railway Station in Novi Sad, from which a canopy collapsed, resulting in the deaths of 16 people, against KRIK journalist Sofija Bogosavljev.

The President of the European Federation of Journalists, Maja Sever, stated that she is concerned about Europe's inability to respond to the threats directed at N1 television by Aleksandar Vučić and other representatives of the government in Serbia. “I do not understand how anyone in the democratic world can comprehend what Vučić has said in the past few weeks about journalists and the N1 newsroom,” Sever emphasized.
