The Association of Independent Electronic Media (ANEM) is conducting a series of activities in 2025 and 2026 aimed at improving the safety of media workers in Serbia as part of the project "System for the Prevention of Violence and Protection of Journalists," which is supported by the European Union, the Kingdom of Norway, and the Balkan Fund for Democracy, as well as the Ministry of Information.

The past year was unprecedented in the number of cases filed due to attacks and threats against female journalists, male journalists, and the media, according to statistics from public prosecutors' offices. In more than half of these cases, the police have not yet provided the requested information, said Veran Matić, President of the Management Board of the Association of Independent Electronic Media (ANEM), a member of the Permanent Working Group for the Safety of Journalists and an operator on the Safe Line for Journalists 0800 100 115.

Permanent Working Group for the Safety of Journalists: The number of physical attacks on media workers increased by 440 percent in 2025.
From the beginning of 2025, until November 30, a total of 117 cases have been formed in public prosecutors' offices related to threats and attacks on media workers, representing an increase of 112 percent compared to the same period last year, emphasized Branko Stamenković, prosecutor of the Supreme Public Prosecutor's Office and member of the Permanent Working Group for the Safety of Journalists (SRG).
