The Association of Independent Electronic Media (ANEM) has launched a public online database of all cases of SLAPP lawsuits against journalists and media outlets.

The database contains information on all lawsuits against media and media workers characterized as SLAPP in Serbia since 2020. Available information includes who initiated the lawsuits against which media outlets, the current status of these lawsuits, their duration, the reasons for filing the lawsuits, and the requested penalties.
So far, according to data available in the ANEM database, the largest number of such lawsuits has been filed against journalists from KRIK.
The database on SLAPP lawsuits is available at THIS LINK and will be regularly updated with new cases and additional information on existing ones.
The aim of creating this database is to identify all SLAPP lawsuits and encourage media to report more frequently and consistently on these proceedings. This is important both as a form of solidarity and as a means of public oversight of the judiciary. Such attacks are often directed at editorial teams whose safety is already compromised, making these lawsuits even more urgent. They drain journalists and media workers, while threats of high compensation claims further contribute to a sense of complete insecurity.
SLAPP lawsuits, by definition, are characterized by legally unfounded and evidently baseless claims and elements that indicate an abuse of rights or procedural rules. This type of lawsuit uses legal proceedings for other purposes, rather than for genuine assessment, proof, or enforcement of rights. The intention of the plaintiff is to restrict, silence, intimidate, and prevent any criticism directed against them.
