ANEM conducted a safety training session for the teaching staff at the Faculty of Philosophy in Niš.

The goal of the training, conducted by experienced journalist and trainer Branko Čečen, is to systematize fundamental knowledge related to the safety of (future) journalists and media workers, legal aspects, institutional practices, and case studies in this field, as well as to initiate work on developing a curriculum for a potential new course in journalism studies that would address these now essential issues.

The one-day training aims to facilitate the exchange of experiences and expand knowledge that would assist faculty in educating future journalism graduates.

This type of workshop highlights the potential dangers from the cyber realm and on the ground, during reporting on demonstrations, unpredictable and dramatic events, natural disasters, and emergencies that media representatives face daily.

One of the desired outcomes of this training is to define internal procedures that would facilitate coordination regarding reporting through the Safe Line, as well as potential legal protection.

The training was conducted within the framework of the project “Enhancement of the Systems and Mechanisms for Prevention and Response in Cases of Threats to the Safety and Life of Journalists in Serbia,” supported by the European Union, with plans for workshops at other public and private universities where journalism is studied.
