Journalist Safety: When Those Who Should Protect Us Are at Risk

It is not only a characteristic of the media landscape, but it may be the most obvious aspect: the more laws, by-laws, training sessions, round tables, consultations, analyses, and research there are – the worse the situation "on the ground" becomes. And this is certainly not just a matter of perception. For example, look at the European Commission's reports on Serbia's progress in the European integration process. These reports use diplomatic language and very cautiously and indirectly provide negative assessments. In fact, even when translated into Serbian, they require further clarification and translation so that the "ordinary citizen" can understand what kind of country we are living in, at least from the perspective of Brussels.
