ANEM ALARM: Monstrous threats to Danica Vučenic must not go unpunished.
The Association of Independent Electronic Media (ANEM) calls on the relevant authorities to take immediate action regarding the horrifying threatening message received by N1 television journalist Danica Vučenić.

In a letter sent from Maribor to the address of television N1, addressed to Danica Vučević, it states: "We will kill your loved ones, you mare."
N1 has reported this message to the police and expects the relevant authorities to respond urgently to the new threats directed at their editorial team and journalists. This editorial team reminds that N1 journalists have received threats even before November 2024, but those threats – including physical attacks on journalists – have significantly increased following the collapse of the awning at the Railway Station in Novi Sad, the protests that subsequently ensued, and their reporting on those events.
This type of intimidation and monstrous threats is unacceptable in a democratic society and must not go unpunished. ANEM demands that the police and prosecution finally begin to do their job, identify the perpetrator, prosecute, and protect the journalist from N1.
We remind that Danica Vučević has faced various forms of threats for years, and that recently they are a direct consequence of numerous targeted campaigns in pro-government media, in which the president himself has participated.
“She has previously received terrifying threats to her life in a similar manner, after which investigative actions and swift judgments followed. We expect the same to happen this time. Danica Vučević is an icon of independent journalism in Serbia who has shown great courage throughout her career. At a time when a battle is being fought for the independent editorial policy of N1, amidst challenges of management changes and the announcement of the sale of media from the ANN group, the journalists and editors of this television are currently standing firm in defense of journalistic, professional, and democratic values,” stated Veran Matić, President of the ANEM Board, member of the Permanent Working Group for Journalist Safety, and operator on the Safe Line for Journalists 0800 100 115.

The project “Improving the system of prevention and response mechanisms in cases of threats to the safety and life of female and male journalists in Serbia” is being implemented by ANEM in partnership with Insider TV and the Center for the Development of Local Media, with the support of the European Union.
The OSCE Mission in Serbia has supported ANEM's project “24/7 SOS hotline for assistance to journalists and other endangered media workers,” within the project funded by the European Union “Strengthening Freedom of Expression and Media Freedom in Serbia.”
