ANEM demands that all journalists who wish to cover the protests in Serbia be granted entry into the country and allowed to carry out their journalistic work without hindrance.

The Association of Independent Electronic Media (ANEM) was informed during the day that at least two journalistic teams from the Republic of Croatia were denied entry into the Republic of Serbia. The decision by the border authorities was based on the preliminary assessment of the duty police officer at the border that the Croatian colleagues could pose a security risk while carrying out their journalistic work in Serbia.

ANEM demands that all journalists who wish to cover the protests in Serbia be granted entry into the country and allowed to carry out their journalistic work without hindrance.

ANEM believes that there is no justification for such a drastic measure to restrict media freedom. The actions taken demonstrate that the level of freedom of expression in Serbia is severely threatened and represent an unjustified attempt to prevent free reporting on protests beyond the borders of our country.

ANEM demands that the relevant authorities allow all journalists, media workers, and editorial offices unhindered access to the territory of Serbia to cover current events.

We urge all journalists and editorial offices who have been denied entry into the Republic of Serbia to contact us at the email address: veran.matic@fondb92.org
