NDNV: Scandalous leak of internal email and targeting of a professor; we demand accountability from the administration of the Faculty of Philosophy.
The Independent Journalists' Association of Vojvodina (NDNV) expresses deep concern over the serious violation of academic and ethical principles at the Faculty of Philosophy in Novi Sad, following the leak of internal faculty correspondence to regime tabloids. This shameful act aims to discredit the Department of Media Studies, one of the spaces for free thought at the university.

According to reliable information from the faculty and media reports, an internal email discussing the organization of a meeting between the delegation of the Media Department of the OSCE Mission in Serbia and the Department of Media Studies has ended up in inciting propaganda outlets.
Considering that the dean Milivoje Alanović and the vice dean for international cooperation Una Popović were aware of the email's content, NDNV demands that the faculty administration publicly explain how internal communication leaked to the tabloids.
This is not only a gross violation of trust standards, communication protection, and academic discourse, but also a targeting of professor Jelena Kleut, who received the email from the OSCE and forwarded it to the faculty administration in accordance with procedures, which was expected to approve the meeting. The meeting at the faculty on October 16 was supposed to address the situation in the Department of Media Studies, as well as the situation in the media in Novi Sad. The tabloids used the email to label professor Kleut as a “state enemy” for meeting with “foreigners.”
NDNV demands an urgent and transparent determination of accountability. University and state authorities must promptly investigate how the internal email was leaked and initiate disciplinary or criminal proceedings against those responsible.
NDNV reminds that the academic community is obligated to act independently of political pressures, propaganda, and tabloid witch hunts that endanger professors, students, and the very freedom of the university.
This is not just an attack on one professor – it is an attack on academic freedom, media literacy, and fundamental democratic values.
NDNV expresses solidarity with professor Jelena Kleut and all colleagues who are exposed to attacks and public lynching.
