SafeJournalists: Threats against Vuk Cvijić and the editorial team of Radar in Serbia must be urgently investigated and sanctioned.
The SafeJournalists network strongly condemns the threats directed at journalist Vuk Cvijić and the editorial team of the weekly magazine Radar through comments on this media's website.

The Radar editorial team received today a series of offensive and targeting messages in the comments, as well as a threat of physical violence directed at all members of the editorial team, particularly journalist Vuk Cvijić. The threatening message was left as a comment on Vuk Cvijić's article "Revealing the SNS Amendment to the Proposal of the Law on Public Prosecutions – Stopping the Work of the Prosecutor's Office for Organized Crime."
The message contains hate speech, insults, and an explicit threat of physical violence. The account user "Miša" wrote, among other things: "Cvijić, now you will see your god, the Ustaša, whom you wanted to eliminate and stop Serbia, I f*** your Ustaša mother. You will get what you asked for, and that is a stick to the head; there will no longer be Nenadić and Dolovčeva signing for you to suck Serbia."
The SafeJournalists network reminds that such threats represent a serious threat to the safety of journalists and an attempt to intimidate with the aim of deterring journalists and editorial teams from reporting on issues of undeniable public interest, including justice reform and the work of the prosecutor's office. Online threats contribute to an increase in the atmosphere of fear, encourage further aggression, and can escalate into physical violence, especially if they go unpunished. It is particularly concerning that threats are directed at a journalist who has been exposed to pressure, attacks, and targeting for years.
It is essential to emphasize that Cvijić has been physically attacked multiple times, even by the police. He was attacked by co-owner of the Serbian Telegraph, Milan Lađević, who struck him in the face. He was then physically assaulted by members of the intervention unit while reporting from a student protest in front of the Faculty of Law. At that time, he was struck with an elbow and a police shield, and on another occasion, he was sprayed with an unknown chemical substance, also by members of the intervention unit.
In the Database of Pressures and Attacks on Journalists and Media managed by NUNS, there were recorded 10 cases of threats and attacks related to the Radar editorial team and journalist Vuk Cvijić during the past year.
The SafeJournalists network calls on the competent prosecutor's office and the Ministry of Internal Affairs to urgently identify the author of the threats, conduct an investigation, and initiate proceedings in accordance with the law. We expect that institutions will treat the case with due seriousness, considering the previous attacks and the ongoing risk to the safety of journalists and the editorial team.
The SafeJournalists network will inform relevant national and international stakeholders.
Every attack on journalists is an attack on democracy, the public interest, and fundamental human rights.
