Hundreds of media outlets, brought together by the campaign platform Avaaz and the organization Reporters Without Borders (RSF), are launching a campaign demanding the protection of Palestinian journalists in Gaza, the urgent evacuation of reporters who wish to leave the Gaza Strip, an end to the impunity for Israeli crimes against journalists in Gaza, and the facilitation of independent access for foreign journalists to the territory.

"I would like to mention three key things that institutions, media associations, and journalists could do regarding safety, as this would mean that they are, as it should be, on the same side. Unfortunately, since our case is not such, my recommendation to journalistic associations is to do everything they do even better, and to female and male journalists to take care of themselves – these are challenging times."

“I know you might say that we have many of our own problems and struggles, but it is important to share solidarity and a sense of love and support. We share it with people who are truly in a very, very difficult situation at this moment, with individuals who are dying daily while performing their work tasks, who are starving, and who are being targeted and killed by Israeli forces, as well as our colleagues to silence them and prevent the news of what is actually happening in Palestine from spreading. Therefore, I urge you, it is important to read Voices from Gaza, to follow the action initiated by our colleagues, and if possible, to get involved, help, and donate. Because even a small amount, a little financial support, will truly mean a lot to these people,” said Maja Sever, President of the European Federation of Journalists (EFJ) and the Croatian Journalists' Union.

I was filming the entire time with an official phone. I was wearing a fluorescent yellow vest that said “press,” and I was visibly marked as a journalist reporting from the event, meaning I was on official duty. However, that was not enough. The police began to push me roughly.

"We expect that we could be killed at any moment. I might be killed right now while talking to you. More than 27 million dinars of public funds have ended up this year in the accounts of media outlets owned by Vladan Stefanović through 16 supported projects. The Ministry of Information and Telecommunications alone contributed 17 million, while the remainder was provided by the Province and the local governments of Subotica and Novi Bečej.

In August 1998, journalists Đuro Slavuj and Ranko Perenić went on assignment in a blue flag 128. Since then, there has been no trace of them. A large part of the territory they headed towards was controlled by the KLA. Investigations, if any were conducted, by both the UN and the EU, yielded no results. The memorial plaque for the missing journalists has been broken eight times, and a ninth has been installed.

I am afraid, just like anyone who engages in a public profession and reveals things that are against the authorities. However, essentially, it is a healthy dose of fear. It is not a fear that will ever stop me from doing what I believe in and what I think is true and just.

Member states of the European Union and the European Parliament must send a clear message to the Serbian authorities that their passive stance – and potential complicity – in this violence is not compatible with Serbia's goal of joining the EU, reported the Reporters.
