Case "Ćuruvija": Digitized Archive of the Commission for the Investigation of the Murders of Journalists Slavko Ćuruvija and Milan Pantić
The Association of Independent Electronic Media (ANEM) will, in the upcoming period, publish a digitized archive of the Commission for the Investigation of the Murders of Journalists Slavko Ćuruvija and Milan Pantić, as part of the project "System for the Prevention of Violence and Protection of Journalists," to inform the public about the details of the proceedings that have marked (not only) the journalism profession in Serbia over the past 20 years.

The Commission was established in 2013 by the Government of the Republic of Serbia to investigate the murders of journalists from the 1990s and early 2000s. It brought together representatives from journalistic and media associations, journalists, the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MUP), and the Security Information Agency (BIA), with the support of the Government of the Republic of Serbia.
During its work, the Commission collected documentation from various sources: MUP, BIA, public prosecutors, as well as information from key participants in previous investigations. After more than ten years of work, the Commission's findings are indisputable, confirmed by positive evaluations from the European Commission. However, there is a lack of political will to resolve the most extreme cases of violence against journalists. In the case of journalist Slavko Ćuruvija's murder, the accused were acquitted due to "lack of evidence" after 10 years of trials and 2 convictions by the special department of the Higher Court. In the case of Milan Pantić's murder, the Commission's proposals for the Organized Crime Prosecutor's Office to take over the case were rejected. The death of journalist Dada Vujasinović, treated as suicide, remains unresolved due to unprofessional evidence collection.
Archiving, digitization, and publication of key documents related to the murders of journalists in Serbia is a process that requires significant expertise, especially in identifying which documents can be publicly disclosed.
The judicial proceedings related to the documents published on this portal have been finalized. The individuals against whom the proceedings were conducted regarding the murder of journalist Slavko Ćuruvija have been definitively acquitted of the charges. The publication of these documents is solely for informational purposes and serves to inform the public about the course of the proceedings, as well as the actions and circumstances that preceded the final judicial decision. Their publication is not intended to question, challenge, or in any way relativize the final judicial decision, nor to attribute guilt or any other form of responsibility to the individuals against whom the proceedings were conducted.
ANEM will regularly update the list of available documents, which you can view at the following links:
