Telekom launched TS Media Live without permission: They claim it is not a channel but a "temporary technical solution."

Telekom Srbija has launched a new media outlet, TS Media Live, which currently features two shows by Milomir Marić – "Dan na dan" and "Ćirilica." Although TS Media Live has its place on the Move and Iris platforms, the channel does not have a license from the Regulatory Body for Electronic Media (REM). Telekom claims that it is not a television channel, but rather a "temporary technical solution" that allows for live broadcasts within the Video Club. Former REM Council member Judita Popović states that the law does not recognize such "solutions."

Telekom launched TS Media Live without permission: They claim it is not a channel but a "temporary technical solution."

Telekom Srbija announced this Monday that it is launching a new television media outlet, TS Media Live. Currently, only two shows are being aired: "Dan na dan" with Milomir Marić and Katarina Korš, as well as "Ćirilica" with Milomir Marić.

In its statement, the company emphasizes that these two shows represent exclusive live programming, which, according to a "completely new standard," will be archived immediately after broadcasting in the Video Club. Unlike traditional program rewinding, which is time-limited, this system allows episodes to be archived long-term, based on a principle similar to that of Netflix.

Although TS Media Live is not explicitly referred to as a television channel in the announcement, it is de facto one, as it has its positions on the Move and Iris platforms. Accordingly, the channel would need to possess a license from REM, which, as confirmed by this regulatory body for Raskrikavanje, it currently does not have.

When asked why they did not obtain the license and whether they believe it is unnecessary, given that they started broadcasting the program without it, Telekom stated to Raskrikavanje that "this is not a channel but a temporary technical solution that allows for a live stream to be displayed on the Video on Demand platform."

"These are two shows produced by an external production company, which is also responsible for the content of these shows, and Telekom Srbija's plan is for these two shows to be available both on the streaming platform and on one of the national channels that offers us the best conditions," said the Public Relations Sector of Telekom.

Former REM Council member Judita Popović states that the law does not recognize "temporary broadcasts" or, as Telekom stated, "temporary solutions."

"To provide certain media services or programming content, you must have a license from REM. They must meet certain conditions that the law stipulates for providing media services," Popović explained to Raskrikavanje.

She added that "whatever is done in Serbia is, of course, done according to the opinions and needs of certain circles," and that "nothing is by the law because the provisions of any law are applied selectively."

Popović also warned about the current situation in the regulatory body: "The question arises whether REM, in its current status, without valid advice, can issue any licenses at all."

Telekom has not registered its new media outlet in the Media Register of the Business Registers Agency (APR), and in response to Raskrikavanje's questions, they did not indicate whether they plan to do so.

Marić in a New Media Project

Milomir Marić resigned from Hepi television at the end of October and, around the same time, established the production company "Ćirilica" with his colleague Katarina Korš. They are registered as equal owners with 50 percent shares each.

On Monday, November 3, Telekom announced the airing of both of Marić's shows on TS Media Live.

Just a few days after leaving Hepi, Marić hosted an old friend and long-time interlocutor who happens to be the President of Serbia on his new platform. The show was aired not only on Telekom's new channel but also on the national frequency of television Prva.

During the appearance, Aleksandar Vučić claimed that the state in Belgrade is "hunting two snipers," referred to the prosecutors as "criminals and a corrupt gang," and stated that more than 150 individuals were engaged to prevent a "counterattack" on the gathered citizens. "Last night when the counterattack began, over 150 people were engaged to stop those guys from chasing them to the Pančevački Bridge," Vučić said on Ćirilica.
