NUNS: Violence Against Journalists in Serbia in July 2025 – Police Brutality and Impunity
In July 2025, the Independent Association of Journalists of Serbia (NUNS) recorded 24 incidents that seriously threatened the safety of journalists and media workers. The majority of incidents pertained to threats against journalists and entire editorial teams, while physical assaults, particularly by police officers, were frequent and violent. Among the 24 incidents, 12 constituted serious threats to the lives and physical safety of journalists, and there were also 8 actual physical attacks on journalists reported. In addition, there were three other cases of different types of threats. These incidents testify to the increasing violence and intimidation faced by journalists, creating a serious security problem and jeopardizing media freedom in the country.
