Since October 7, 2023, more than 60,000 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza, including at least 244 journalists and media workers, representing a mortality rate of over ten percent – dramatically higher than in any other profession, according to the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ).

Journalists reporting from EU member states and candidate countries for EU membership are invited to apply for grants for the production of investigative stories that illuminate key social, political, and economic issues.

"One word – catastrophic. Journalists in Gaza are documenting the war they are experiencing, living under siege with nowhere to escape. They are in constant fear of being targeted and killed. We have seen a pattern in Gaza, where Israel targets journalists, kills them, and 'gets away' with these murders. Civilians are supposed to be protected by international law, but unfortunately, in Gaza, we witness them being killed and portrayed as terrorists, without evidence that they are terrorists," describes Sara Kudah, regional director for the Middle East and North Africa at the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ).

“Hate speech is a criminal offense if directed at individuals advocating for human rights, but not if it is aimed at journalists. To conclude – the existing legal framework provides too much room for arbitrary and malicious interpretation of the law, resulting in those who harm or intimidate journalists not being held accountable for their actions.”

The First Basic Public Prosecutor's Office in Belgrade has dismissed the report of an attack on Insider journalist Stefan Miljuš, who was physically assaulted by an unknown man on May 1 while reporting from a gathering at Nikola Pašić Square. Miljuš informed the public prosecutor of the First Basic Public Prosecutor's Office, Aleksandar Gavrić, who also conveyed to him that he has the right to appeal this decision.

The President of the High Council of the Prosecutor's Office and member of the SRG, Branko Stamenković, tells “Vreme” that there have been several achievements of the Permanent Working Group since its establishment to date. Firstly, he explains, he would highlight “building an understanding of the problems journalists face in their work,” which relate to potential criminal law protection. He adds that it has been extremely important for them, as prosecutors, to consider and understand as many circumstances and facts concerning journalists' safety as possible, and thereafter propose more concrete measures.

The new Unified Information System (UIS) of the Ministry of Information and Telecommunications, through which media projects have been evaluated this year for project co-financing competitions, has caused a number of difficulties, agree most members of this year's project evaluation committees contacted by ANEM. Additionally, many of them highlight as a significant problem that certain candidates were members of a large number of committees, and they believe that this should be limited.

The portal InfoVranjske.rs has learned that Zoran Dimitrijević was interrogated yesterday at the Basic Public Prosecutor's Office in Vranje regarding the case "Attack on journalist Jelena Stojković."

The trial of the Slavko Ćuruvija Foundation in the lawsuits filed by former officials and members of the State Security Service, Milan Radonjić, Ratko Romić, and Miroslav Kurak, has been postponed for the fourth time since the beginning of the year. The absence of Judge Ljiljana Ilić, who did not attend the previous two hearings due to illness, was not explained this time.
