“The Agreement on Media Cooperation regarding the acquisition of texts is a sign that there is a willingness to collaborate in this area, which is a positive step forward, as it is often overlooked that journalism is an authorship profession,” said Nino Brajović, the General Secretary of the Association of Journalists of Serbia (UNS), at today’s conference “I am a Journalist, I am an Author,” held at the UNS Press Center.

The media market in Serbia is saturated, poorly regulated, and under strong political control, according to the annual report by the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism (Reuters Institute Digital News Report 2025), which includes Serbia for the first time.

In the last two days, with regard to the media, two news items have marked the landscape, closely connected by the consequences they may produce on the media environment in Serbia. One is the withdrawal of candidacies from 16 candidates by 78 authorized proposers from the further procedure of elections for the REM Council, and the other is the initiative to establish the Association of Journalists of Serbia.
